    • Are fluent in English
    • Are willing and able to undergo fMRI scanning (not claustrophobic, no non-removable metal in your body)
    • Are NOT currently pregnant

    Purpose of the study

Symptoms related to depression and anxiety can affect a person’s daily life and interpersonal relationships. Some research suggests that people with mood and anxiety disorders process information differently than people without these types of disorders.

The purpose of this study is to better understand the way the brain works in people who have depression and anxiety. Researchers hope their findings will lead to better ways to diagnose and treat mood and anxiety disorders in the future.

    What Participants can expect

Participation involves an initial phone call, followed by a 3-5 hour visit (the In-Person Screen) to find out if you are eligible. The In-Person Screen visit will include completing questionnaires and interviews. If eligible, participants will come back for a second 3-5 hour visit (the Scan). At this second visit, participants will have an fMRI scan. fMRI scans are not invasive and do not use radiation. Following the Scan, participants will complete daily online questionnaires for 7 days.

Participants will also complete two follow-up visits (at 6 and 12 months after the initial In-Person Screen).  Both of these follow-up visits will include questionnaires and interviews, and both will be followed by 7 days of online questionnaires. The follow-up visits will take about 1.5 to 3 hours to complete.  Participants are compensated for each study component/visit they complete.
